A Visit to the Newark Museum

Shelley Cathcart, Curator of Collections & Exhibits | August 9, 2021

I just went to the Newark Museum of Art several weeks ago and the museum recently reopened. The museum has always been on my list for “places to visit,” and I was amazed at the depth and breadth of the collection. The interpretation is well done and invites various audiences to engage with the art and objects in innovative ways. Hopefully in the post-COVID world, the museum will open the Ballantine House. My favorite display was the Four Quiltmakers Four American Stories which featured four quilts made between 1864 and 2010. This display invites the viewer to see how quilting has persisted as a vehicle to communicate artistry and also tell fascinating narratives of the culture or people who created these quilts. Make sure you visit the Newark Museum soon! I highly recommend it!
