SUMMARY:Virtual Program: Medical Care During the Hard Winter
DESCRIPTION:Join METC and Morristown National Historical Park Chief Curator Dr. Jude Pfister for a virtual guided tour of the exhibits at the park museum relating to medical care during the Revolutionary War on Thursday\, March 18 at 7 pm. Morristown played host to Washington and the Continental Army for two major winter encampments in 1777 and 1779-1780. One landmark decision by Washington\, inoculation of the army against smallpox\, occurred in Morristown. This presentation will cover medical care in general during the period before focusing on Morristown and the stories associated with the army’s care. Dr. Pfister will also discuss some of the thinking that went in to creating the exhibits. Pre-registration for this event is required for access to the Zoom link. Tickets are $10 per person or free for METC Members. \nClick here to register!

SUMMARY:Uncovered: Hidden Treasures from METC's Permanent Collection Opens!
DESCRIPTION:Every museum collection has a few stories to tell.  Comprised of approximately 8\,900 objects\, historic records\, and library holdings\, METC’s collection represents a comprehensive and dedicated approach to New Jersey’s development from an early settlement to industrialization. Since opening over 50 years ago\, METC has featured the permanent collection in informative gallery exhibits and educational programs focusing on home\, shop\, and farm trades. Reflecting the daily life of everyday individuals\, this collection tells the complex stories of New Jersey culture\, economy\, and society in the 18th and 19th centuries. However\, with only 15% of the collection on view much of METC’s vast collection has been tucked away in storage. \nOn July 6th\, METC will open a new Main Gallery exhibit titled Uncovered: Hidden Treasures from METC’s Permanent Collection. For the first time in decades\, objects housed deep in METC’s storage facilities will be displayed. This exhibit intends to reveal the depth and breadth of METC’s permanent collection including objects uncovered during METC’s collections move and comprehensive inventory. This exhibit will be on display in the Main Gallery until February 2022.
