SUMMARY:The Coopers: “Freedom”\, Abduction\, and Life in Central Delaware &  Dr. Still and The Underground Railroad in NJ
DESCRIPTION:Join METC for a Virtual Lecture on February 16 at 6pm. Dr. Michael Gall and Sam Still will present an overview of the experiences of Black Americans in New Jersey and Delaware during the 1700 and 1800s. Michael J. Gall\, president of the New Jersey Archeological Society will join us  to discuss the Cooper Family\, a Black family who lived near Dover\, Delaware between the 1700s and the 1820s. Through his research\, Dr. Gall will focus on the ways one black family in Federal Period Delaware contended with and maneuvered through white society\, abduction of a family member\, enslavement\, “freedom”\, daily life\, and faith. Sam Still of the Dr. James Still Foundation will discuss the Underground Railroad in New Jersey and Dr. James Still’s involvement. This will be a virtual program via Zoom. SUMMARY:Needle Sculpting After School Program
DESCRIPTION:Are you curious about needle felting? In this free spirited workshop kids will have lots of fun learning the basics of “sculpting with fiber” in this 4 week after school program starting April 27\, 2022. Come prepared to use your imagination and create your very own fuzzy animal to take home. Beginners are welcome\, however this class is not suitable for those with wool allergies and is best for ages 10 and up. Cost is $50 per child. Pre-registration for this program is required as space is limited. Click here to register! \nJosie is a textile artist with a fascination for fibers\, quilts\, fabrics and color. She combines these various materials with texture to create one of a kind art scarves\, wall art and small accessories. Josie’s skillset as an artist incorporates her inspiration from nature which she not only channels into various art forms but through teaching others through workshops. \nFunding has been made possible in part by funds from Morris Arts through the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/ Department of State\, a partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts

DESCRIPTION:Join METC and EverGreene Architectural Arts to explore the world of historic conservation just in time for Historic Preservation Month on May 4\, 2022\, at 6:30pm! Kelly Caldwell\, Director of Conservation\, Senior Conservator along with Silvia Callegari\, Conservator\, will provide insights into their project at METC and how the EverGreene team brought the historic interiors of the James Library Building back to its 1899 splendor. \nAttendees will get to hear firsthand from the team of conservators on the various techniques and methods EverGreene used during the yearlong project on a tour through the galleries of the James Library Building. \nThis program will be offered in person at METC on May 4\, 2022 at 6:30pm.
