SUMMARY:Summer Concert Series: Peter & the Master Keys
DESCRIPTION:METC’s free Summer Concert Series sponsored by the DDC is back! Enjoy a FREE night of music this summer on Fridays from 6-8pm. Bring your own chair or blanket to sit and listen to some great performances. On August 19\, we’re getting jazzy with Peter & the Master Keys! Peter & the Master Keys’ music is the perfect blend of cool sophistication and rootsy soul. Specializing in American jazz and blues from the 40’s through 60’s (with a dash of rock n’ roll thrown into the mix)\, they pay homage to an earlier era of live music when real musicians played real instruments with finesse and feeling to connect to the audienceWith three horns (trumpet\, tenor sax\, baritone sax) and a robust rhythm section (keys\, guitar\, upright bass\, drums)\, you might even call them a “little” big band!

SUMMARY:Latinx Art: Maps\, Madres\, and Malinches
DESCRIPTION:Who and what is a “Latinx”? And how is it different from Latin American? This lecture given by Emma Oslé\, Rutgers PhD candidate\, offers a cursory inside look at the diverse field of “Latinx Art” through contemporary artist production\, mapmaking practices that date back to the 15th century\, and a long history of visualizing important mother figures in art such as the Madonna and Malinche/Malintzin. This talk bridges historic work with contemporary production to offer a rounded view of a few key issues that artists from Latinx communities grapple with in their work today\, including dislocation\, mapping\, homeland\, belonging\, and care practices. \nThis is a Hybrid event. SUMMARY:Zombies\, Witches\, and Vampires: How the dead speak
DESCRIPTION:As Halloween rolls around\, we pull out the plastic skeletons without thought to what they represent. Skeletons are ubiquitous with holiday décor\, but most people don’t realize how much we learn about our past from human skeletal analysis. The study of human remains in their archaeological context\, known as bioarchaeology\, provides tantalizing insights into past lives\, customs\, and beliefs. \nThis Halloween METC\, together with bioarcheologist Dr. Jill Rhodes\, is taking the history conversation back over thousands of years to look at some of the more unusual lessons we can learn from the dead. How far back can we see the belief in zombies\, witches or vampires? How can we identify them in the archaeological record? What unusual rituals were employed to gain an advantage in combat\, or to ensure a good harvest? Let’s gather together and hear the stories of the dead. \nTo pre-register\, click here.  You may also copy and paste this link. https://app.donorview.com/DYybR
