SUMMARY:The Coopers: “Freedom”\, Abduction\, and Life in Central Delaware &  Dr. Still and The Underground Railroad in NJ
DESCRIPTION:Join METC for a Virtual Lecture on February 16 at 6pm. Dr. Michael Gall and Sam Still will present an overview of the experiences of Black Americans in New Jersey and Delaware during the 1700 and 1800s. Michael J. Gall\, president of the New Jersey Archeological Society will join us  to discuss the Cooper Family\, a Black family who lived near Dover\, Delaware between the 1700s and the 1820s. Through his research\, Dr. Gall will focus on the ways one black family in Federal Period Delaware contended with and maneuvered through white society\, abduction of a family member\, enslavement\, “freedom”\, daily life\, and faith. Sam Still of the Dr. James Still Foundation will discuss the Underground Railroad in New Jersey and Dr. James Still’s involvement. This will be a virtual program via Zoom.
